Product Care & Maintenance

Embers & Iron Grill Grate

Congratulations on choosing to elevate your grilling game. You’ve moved away from disposable hardware and invested in a rack built for performance. To ensure your Grill Rack delivers a lifetime of service and remains free from the rust that plagues lesser products, please follow these care guidelines.

1. Initial Preparation: The First Burn

Before using your rack for the first time, it is essential to remove factory residues:

  • Clean: Wash the rack thoroughly in warm, soapy water to remove protective manufacturing oils.

  • Dry: Use a soft, lint-free cloth to dry the surface completely.

  • Season (Stainless Steel Only): Apply a very light coat of a high-smoke-point oil (such as grapeseed or canola). Heat the rack until the oil begins to smoke. Repeat this process twice to develop a natural, durable non-stick barrier.

2. Post-Grill Cleaning Routine

Allowing salts, acids, or carbonized food to remain on the surface for extended periods can degrade the finish.

  • The "Warm Scrub": Clean the rack while it is still slightly warm to the touch. This makes debris much easier to remove. Use a high-quality stainless steel brush or a nylon scouring pad.

  • Chemical Safety: Avoid bleach or aggressive, highly acidic oven cleaners, as these can etch the metal surface.

  • Hand Washing Recommended: While durable, the harsh salts found in dishwasher detergents can dull the finish over time. Hand washing is the best way to maintain the rack’s original luster.

3. Corrosion Prevention

Even high-grade alloys require protection from moisture and environmental factors.

  • Moisture Control: Never store your rack while damp. Ensure it is bone-dry before putting it away.

  • Proper Storage: If your grill is outdoors, keep it covered.

Coastal Note: If you live near the ocean, salt air is highly corrosive. In these environments, store the rack inside a dry cupboard or a sealed grill cover when not in use for long periods.

4. Protecting Structural Integrity

Under extreme temperatures, stainless steel can undergo a "sigma phase" change, which may increase brittleness over time. To maintain the strength of the metal:

  • Handle with Care: Do not slam, drop, or strike the grate, especially while it is hot or in the process of cooling.

  • Thermal Management: Avoid "thermal shock" by allowing the rack to heat up and cool down gradually whenever possible.

Following these steps will ensure your grill rack remains a high-performing centerpiece of your outdoor cooking for years to come.
